Water Damage Restoration in Washington, DC: How We Restored 32 Water-Damaged Condos

Posted by on Tuesday, March 8th, 2022 in Water Damage Restoration

In February 2022, Purofirst of Metropolitan Washington responded to a flooding incident at a large condominium. We received an early morning phone call from the Executive Vice President (EVP) of a large property management company that one of his properties had suffered significant water damage. Here’s how we took steps to restore the water damage.

The water damage was caused by a burst pipe located underneath a kitchen sink. This caused water to leak into four units on the floor. But the situation was worse than previously thought: the water had flowed down eight floors. In total, 32 condominiums had been soaked.

The EVP asked that we come as soon as possible in order to minimize the water damage. We’re happy to say that we delivered! Our restoration experts arrived on the scene in less than two hours after receiving the call.

Because the water damage was on a massive scale, we enlisted a team of 17 technicians and staff to begin the repair. To ensure residents weren’t further impacted by the damage, we wanted to restore the condos back to their livable conditions as soon as possible. We also brought several drying and dehumidifying equipment.

Once the restoration team assessed the extent of the water damage, we created a plan of action. Water had soaked through a lot of porous materials, such as walls, ceilings, carpets, and laminate flooring.

The technicians first began to extract water from the carpet and floors. Next, they removed the soaked materials, including carpet and furniture, to efficiently dry the area. After, they arranged the drying equipment in targeted areas to thoroughly mitigate the damage, thus returning the property to its pristine, pre-loss condition.

The final step was to rebuild/reconstruct any areas that were affected by the water damage. During this stage, our technicians repaired or replaced water-damaged areas, such as walls, ceilings, and floors throughout the condominium.

Overall, we’re very proud of our crew’s restoration work. They worked tirelessly and effectively to thoroughly repair the unexpected water damage. The staffing was under the direction of Mike Whitman, our Emergency Production Manager, who has over 30 years of experience. With more than ten years of experience in disaster restoration, Dago Reyes was a natural choice to lead our crew. Congratulations to them and the staff on a job well done!
