Purofirst Completes 3-Unit Water Loss Remediation and Hoarding Pack-Out

Water damage can often start small but can quickly escalate to cause more destruction. If not treated promptly, the water can create problems with mold, as well as long-term structural damage. We recently were called in to complete a water restoration job for a Condo Association in Silver Spring, MD. The job quickly evolved into something much more involved than we initially expected.

A Duo of Jobs

We arrived to remediate a ruptured toilet supply line in one unit. The owner of this unit has been overseas in Pakistan since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of this extended absence, no one had checked on the condo for some time. When the supply line broke, no one noticed the water leak until it started to affect other units. There was no way to tell if the leak had been going on for weeks or months. Thankfully the Condo Association called for our services.

Upon arrival, Purofirst found the source unit to have 2-3ft of standing water in the basement. On the main level, the floor was near to the point of rotting out. With the help of our state-of-the-art psychrometric equipment to measure moisture levels, we began drying the basement and the main level. Our crew then removed the rotted floorboards from the main level and gutted the drywall in the basement. Once it all was cleared and dried, we began replacing the subflooring.

Meanwhile, the unit’s direct neighbor that noticed the water damage also had a hoarding problem. Purofirst then added a pack-out of the condo to our duties. We safely removed an immense amount of content from the premises. 

Despite all the surprises, Purofirst fully mitigated the loss within a timely manner for the affected units. Our work included some extensive demolition, mold remediation, asbestos abatement, and pack-out services.

We completed the work within a 2-week time frame, even with the immense amount of content removal and asbestos abatement services needed. Our communication skills wowed the Condo Association. They felt as though they were involved in the process from start to finish of the project, specifically how our technicians explained the job’s specifics from point A-Z to relay this to their residents.
